Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Generator |

Definition from Dictionary.com Fuel Cell: a device that produces a continuous electric current directly from the oxidation of a fuel, as that of hydrogen by oxygen. In reality
a battery could be called a fuel cell because it creates an electric current
through a type of electrolosis. Here is a link to more basics on the different types of
hydrogen fuel cells.
There are a few ways to release Hydrogen atoms from the Oxygen atoms. One of the easiest is simply putting two electrodes in water. When they are close enough together (Approximately 1 to 2 mm), the electronic field between the plates will cause the hydrogen atoms to be released from the Oxygen. Since Hydrogen is lighter it immediately floats to the top. (Please do not do this indoors. Read Warning!) Be happy that Oxygen and Hydrogen are attracted to each other. Otherwise we would not exist. These are the types of hydrogen cells many people make all over the world. The only problem is they draw too much energy from a battery and it takes lots of hydrogen to run even a 4 cylinder vehicle. This is where pulsing the battery flow to the plates can lower the amperage used. It is still not enough Hydrogen production using the standard car electrical system, but many of these systems are in use and they're getting better. To learn more read Hydrogen Basics.
